GAF’s Warranties
GAF has three levels of warranty available to the homeowner investing in a new GAF shingle roofing system: GAF Shingle & Accessory Warranty, GAF Weather Stopper System Plus Ltd. Warranty, and GAF Golden Pledge Ltd. Warranty. Only GAF Master Elite Contractors can offer the Golden Pledge Warranty. All of these warranties provide maximum wind coverage up to 130 mph on all GAF shingles except the 3-Tab shingles and these warranties are transferable.
GAF Shingle & Accessory Warranty
This is GAF’s basic warranty and is available on any installation. It covers 100% of any material defect found and the cost of installation labor for 10 years, although GAF’s 3-Tab shingles are only covered 3-5 years under this warranty. There is no workmanship coverage with this warranty.
GAF Weather Stopper System Plus Ltd. Warranty
GAF’s better warranty, available through a GAF certified installer like Alliance Roofing Company, System Plus covers 100% of material defects for 50 years, 20 years on 3-Tab shingles. It covers 100% of installation labor costs for the lifetime of the roof, 3-Tab shingles are only covered 25-30 years for labor costs. System Plus typically has the contractor providing 100% workmanship coverage for 2 years and also covers misapplication of certain flashings for that same 2 year period. Tear-off costs are covered if the original issue was a material defect.
GAF Golden Pledge Ltd. Warranty
GAF’s best warranty, available only through a GAF Master Elite Roofing Contractor like Alliance Roofing Company. Golden Pledge covers 100% of material defects for 50 years, 20 years on 3-Tab shingles. It covers 100% of installation labor costs for the lifetime of the roof, 3-Tab shingles are only covered 25-30 years for labor costs. Golden Pledge provides 100% workmanship coverage for 25 years and also covers misapplication of certain flashings with coverage provided and backed by GAF. Tear-off and disposal costs are covered for both material defects and workmanship. This Warranty also looks to problem prevention with a 40 point factory inspection.
GAF shingles go through a number of inspections, as well as years of testing, so the chances of the shingles themselves failing are slim, but it does occasionally happen. And while it is extremely rare, if it happens it can be as expensive to fix as the original installation cost. Studies have proven that more than two-thirds of the problems that new roofs experience are due to contractor workmanship, which is why GAF provides training for roofing contractors and backs those that have achieved Master Elite status.
